I continue to get asked when should some one contract back in, if a guy who was born 14/9/1946 contracted out of SERPS on 6/4/87, what is the key date for him to contract back in ?

We have no 'pivotal ages' as such for the current tax year as we believe that any decision to contract-out or back in should be based on an individual assessment of the client's position.

Illustrations are normally available which show the effect of contracting out which could help with any decision.

For information, our pivotal ages for 2003/2004 were 59 for males, 52 for females. With these rates in mind, the client should certainly at least consider contracting back in.

Trust this helps
