Frequently asked questions

Below are the four questions we're asked most by employers. If your question isn't here then try the Financial Services Authority (FSA) or our related links for other pension related sites.

How do I find a financial adviser?

If you want to take advantage of all Scottish Life has to offer, you'll need an adviser, as we don't employ a direct sales force. One of the best ways to find one is through personal recommendation. Or you can visit IFA Promotion to find a list of qualified independent advisers in your area. Make sure to check that they are suitably experienced in group or corporate pensions before signing up, and consider asking for testimonials from existing clients.

How do I know which pension option is most suitable for my company?

Your financial adviser will recommend the most suitable option for your company after a thorough fact find and discussion. Influencing factors may include:

  • The size of your company.
  • How much you are willing to pay in.
  • How much responsibility, risk and control you want to have.
  • How much control and choice you want your employees to have.

How can I get my employees interested in pensions?

To a certain extent this will happen naturally as people start to realise that the State can't provide for them fully in retirement. However, there are ways to make sure that employees realise the value of the benefit you're providing. Scottish Life's works4you system can help, as can our worksite marketing material. It's in everyone's interest to make sure that your employees understand their pensions, so please talk to us or your financial adviser if you need assistance.

I have a technical query - Who can I contact?

We have tried to keep pensions simple and ensure you have all the information you need. If you've got a technical question, though, you're welcome to visit Technical Central, our technical experts' website, or our BeeHive website - both are dedicated to plain English translations of pensions issues. Technical Central even includes an interactive forum where you can post queries and have them answered by other users or our experts.
