Investment > Our Proposition > Managed Strategies > Managed Strategies Managed StrategiesWe are pleased to introduce the Scottish Life Managed Strategies, a range of asset allocation benchmarks designed to maximise real returns (i.e. returns greater than the rate of inflation) over a specified time horizon and subject to a specified level of risk. Quite simply, we believe that the basis of any fund recommendation should take these factors into account - i.e. the appropriateness of a fund's objectives for an individual investor. Managed Strategies have been designed with:
Managed Strategies incorporate three time horizons - Short, Medium and Long Term ("Short" being 5 years, "Medium" 10 years and "Long" 15 years or more). Typically funds with a longer time horizon will focus on growing capital, where medium and short term funds gradually shift the focus towards reducing volatility and securing purchasing power. Although, investment returns may fluctuate and are not guaranteed. The price of units can go down as well as up and past performance is not a guide to the future. As illustrated in the diagram above, there are nine benchmarks. Three of our Managed funds are now being managed in line with the benchmarks outlined in red. However any of the nine benchmarks can be replicated by using a combination of funds available in our full range. Reflecting the need for greater transparency, we have set up an Advisory Committee to monitor on a quarterly basis the performance of our funds and the risks that the investment manager should be allowed to take, considering the objective of the fund. The Advisory Committee reports on the strategies and a summary of their discussions is publicly available. You can be confident the long-term aims of the portfolio are considered, reviewed regularly and open to external scrutiny.
