Secure email for group pensions business quotes

We are now using a secure email system called Unipass Securemail for sending out group pension business quotes.

This means that group pension quotes containing sensitive information will be encrypted to help protect customer data and comply with the Data protection Act 1998.

Why are we doing this?

We understand that your data and your clients’ information is extremely important, so keeping it safe is a responsibility that we take very seriously.

Emails in their standard format can be accessed by hackers and the contents stolen or changed. The Unipass Securemail encrypts emails, which virtually eradicates this risk, giving you and your clients peace of mind that the data we include in our emails is protected.

How does it work?

Encrypting emails in this way means that the email is protected by a ‘key’ that only you hold. The first time you receive a secure email from us you will be taken through a very quick and straightforward registration process.

Every time thereafter you need to open a secure email from us you will just need to answer a security question that you set up during registration. It’s very straightforward and only takes a couple of minutes.

In brief

  • Unipass Securemail encrypts emails to protect the information within them.
  • To read them, you have to register first and then are prompted to answer a security question every time thereafter - it's easy.
  • These measures help us to comply with principle 7 of the Data protection Act regarding Information Security.
  • Secure emails help us to keep sensitive information safe, allowing you to reassure your clients.
  • It's yet another example of Scottish Life leading the way with innovation and technology.

How will this affect the way you do business with us?

At the moment we are piloting the Unipass Securemail system with group pension business quotes.

What are the benefits?

  • It helps to keep your clients' sensitive information safe when being sent by email
  • It helps to keep your company details secure
  • It gives peace of mind that the information contained in a secure email has not been tampered with or changed by a third party
  • It helps both your business and ours to comply with the Data Protection Act 1998.
