Can anyone shed any light on the actual time line for A-Day it seems to me that the government will be hard pushed to make the necessary amendments prior to april 2005 and some people are beginning to suggest that it may be pushed back to April 2006.

Anyone have any views on this?

Mark, first of all, welcome to the TC Forum!

As you'll be aware, all the Revenue consultation papers specifically say that 6 April 2005 will be A-Day and as far as we're aware, there is no intention to change this. Various bodies are making representations on this to try and get it changed but nothing's certain yet!

2005 seems extremely tight given that the Chancellor will only confirm if it's all going ahead in this years budget. If it stays at 2005, it doesn't leave much time to advise people on what to do and doesn't leave providers much time to gear up for the changes...

I certainly hope that it is deferred to 2006 to give everyone some time to sort out what they need to do with their existing pensions, especially those with larger funds.

So it does look like 2005 it will be interesting to hear what mr G has to say on the 17th March relating to this and the opportunities are now.

What are scottish life doing with regard to IFA education are you running seminars or do you have comments other than steves which i read a lot.

do you have a specific offering for audits like a calculator and report service?

Yep, we'll all have to wait – again - to see whether it's going to happen or not 'tho I very much doubt that after all the work that's gone into the consultations/responses etc that it won't happen. It's really just a matter of when it will all happen!

We’re currently planning another Roadshow this year in April and May with Steve as the keynote speaker. Hopefully we’ll know a lot more then than we do now. If you want to come along, you should be informed by your local Scottish Life branch as to the date and venue nearer the time but if not, either contact the local branch or let me know.

For further information, as you know, there's Steve's BeeLines and the more in depth 'So that was...' monthly online magazine also on the BeeHive. In addition there are plans to publish more in depth stuff on our Technical Central website - once we get more detail that is - and support IFAs with local workshops.

We don't have any plans just now for audit/calculator services but we'll certainly be looking at something to help IFAs and their clients decide what to do about A-Day.

If you do need any info about a particular client, you could always just post the question here on the Forum.
