BeeHive > BeeLines > 2008 > Jul > Every Vote Counts Every Vote CountsI’m after a favour. Hope you don’t mind, but we’re pretty chuffed here at the BeeHive to have received confirmation that our Pensions Radio podcasts have been shortlisted for a European Podcast award. I mean, how good’s that? When we first started the BeeHive all those years ago everyone said that a website dedicated to pensions just wouldn’t take off; like, who on earth would want to read it? To be honest, that’s what I thought too. But today the BeeHive has an active readership that outpaces many other professional finance sites, plenty of which have much greater resources at their disposal than Ms Bruun and I have (although we probably have more sticky tape and string than most of them have got). Last year we even managed to make the Times top 50 business blogs list and our reader numbers have gone up by nearly a third since then. We never planned any of this; I just write about pensions really, but the constant flow of e-mails we get from BeeLiners tells us we’re doing something right even if we don’t know what it is. We don’t have the hours in a day to reply to all those e-mails, by the way, but I guess you appreciate that, or you wouldn’t keep writing in. I have to say that when I’m travelling the length and breadth of the country doing my day job on the pension circuit there’ve been many cold wet mornings on windy railway platforms and in noisy airports that you could’ve caught me with a smile on my face reading BeeLiners’ e-mails on my Blackberry. Sometimes it’s all that keeps me going. That and the coffee. So, when we started the Pensions Radio podcasts just a year ago, did we think anyone would listen to them? No, is probably what my gut instinct said, but once again it’s only gone to prove that I’ve got no idea of what’ll work and what won’t. Pensions Radio has turned out to be a major success for the site in terms of the numbers of listeners and downloads and it’s probably been a big part of the reason we’re picking up so many new BeeLiners all the time. (Hi! By the way.) And now we’ve been put up for this award and find ourselves stacked up against all the big guns of financial Europe. Gut instinct-wise I’d say that puts us in the “they said it couldn’t be done, so we didn’t do it” category, but Ms Bruun thinks otherwise. “Get all the BeeLiners to vote for us; that’ll give the judges something to think about” is what she said. So I guess if you’d like to help us further in our David and Goliath struggles and if maybe you can spare a minute or so you’d be good enough to follow this link to the voting page and tell them how brilliant we are: European Podcast Award Thanks, it’s much appreciated. 23 July 2008 Any research and analysis has been provided by us for our own purposes and the results of it are being made available only incidentally.
