A-Day three months on
A-Day came and went back in April this year, but the pension changes have continued without a break ever since and look set to do so for ever I guess. On top of simplification we’ve had issues with public sector pensions, higher-rate tax relief possibly being under threat, the widening-out of IHT on pensions, the limiting of ASP, the Recycling Tax, trustee knowledge and understanding, the tentative and delayed restoration of the earnings link, a new White Paper, Section 76 proposals and the possibility of more retrospective action maybe to S2P, the Financial Assistance Scheme problems and the very real threat of the levelling down of existing occupational schemes that could come as a result of the introduction of auto-enrolment. And that’s just a snapshot of what’s happened in the short three months since A-Day! It can sometimes make you feel as if we’re in the middle of some financial Alamo at the moment can’t it? It’s helpful, I think, to know that similar things have been happening elsewhere in the pension universe - on Planet Stakeholder. At least we’re not alone…..
