Lawrence Churchill on Pensions Radio

OK, today we’ve got a new show on Pensions Radio featuring Lawrence Churchill, the Chairman of the Pension Protection Fund.  Lawrence joins me and Stephen Ballard in one of our usual rambles around the fabulous subject of pensions and this time, of course, we’re talking about consumer protection and what exactly it is that the Pension Protection Fund does and doesn’t do; how it differs from the US Pension Benefit Guarantee Corporation that it was partly based upon; why it’s different from the Financial Assistance Scheme that almost everyone thinks is part of it; and all sorts of related issues that I’m sure you’ll find interesting.

These Pensions Radio podcasts have become a popular part of what we do on the BeeHive these days and we get plenty of e-mails saying good things about them.  For me, I think they give us the chance to talk about, facet by facet, some of the many aspects of pensions in this country today that together can seem so confusing sometimes, but analysed separately and spoken about openly are hopefully made helpful to people trying to get their heads around what’s going on in pensions right now.  That’s the theory anyhow.

Not all the e-mails that we’ve received about the podcasts have been positive, though.  Things like that don’t happen in real life, not even on the BeeHive!  From our mailbox we’re well aware that listening in to our podcasts isn’t always easy or even possible for some BeeLiners.  Not all PCs are fitted with the right hardware or software to play audio files and, even where PCs can do that it’s not always convenient for people to listen in to a radio show if, for instance, they work in an open-plan office.  For me, of course, that would seem to be the ideal situation in which our regular BeeLiners could get others drawn into the net and converted to the pensions cause, but my understanding from your e-mails is that not everyone wants that.  So, we’ve been looking into what we can do to help, so that everyone who wants to listen to the podcasts can do so.

And that’s where Phonecasts come in.  I’m pleased to say that from today you can now listen to the BeeHive podcasts on Pensions Radio using nothing more complicated than your telephone.  We're quite probably the first company in the UK to offer this facility (something I know won’t surprise anyone; it’s what leading from the front’s all about) and all you need to do to listen to Pensions Radio now is to just call:

0845 6856078

Calls are charged at the standard local rate, so it’s not a free service in the way that it is on the internet, but it gives you a reasonably cheap way of accessing the Pensions Radio podcasts either from your crowded office or even when you’re out of the office and away from your PC.

Be honest, we can’t be fairer than that can we?  (Don’t let anyone ever tell you that we don’t listen to what people say.)  And keep the e-mails coming in, please; if nothing else it reminds us that there’s a real world out there…
